Tae Kwon Do Family

Dear Students: February 2003

God has blessed us with a wonderful system of support and nurturing we call the family. Not only are there biological families, but also many other types of families, like church families, friendship families and of course our Tae Kwon Do family. This Tae Kwon Do family has the following special characteristics:

Kindness. Happy people, confident people are more kind, and this kindness reflects back to these people. Good family members are kind to each other and this kindness embraces its members and produces a good spirit.

Interest and Concern. Each family member looks out for the interests of the other members as well as the interest of the family as a whole. Ignorance and apathy are the enemies of a good family. Our concern for each member extends to their careers, health and education as we pray for and act for their well being.

Loyal and Faithful. Be consistent with your dedication to your family. You must be faithful to, and trust in that family, as well as be trusted by its members. This faithfulness extends to your country as well. An oriental proverb states that if you awake in the morning with a goal or plan this plan should be the same by the time you sleep, or something is wrong. It is very important to be loyal to your family.

I want my students to apply these characteristics not only to our Tae Kwon Do family, but to their own families, at home, school and careers.

God Bless You,

Master Moo H. Kim
