The 6 Basic Positions

While there are probably hundreds of different positions in Jiu jitsu, there are 6 primary positions that beginners should be aware of.  There are 3 guards and 3 dominant positions.  The difference between a guard and a dominant position is whether or not the legs are involved in keeping your opponent away and denying them from completely controlling your hips and shoulders.
